Comparative evidence remains essential to guide therapeutic choices in moderate to severe dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. At EADV 2025, a randomized, investigator-blinded study compared Dercos DS Shampoo containing Selenium Disulfide with a dermocosmetic shampoo containing zinc pyrithione.

After four weeks of use, selenium disulfide demonstrated a significantly greater reduction in seborrheic dermatitis severity scores compared to zinc pyrithione. Improvements were observed across key clinical parameters, including dandruff, erythema, and pruritus, with visible differences documented as early as Day 3 and sustained through Day 28.

In addition to superior clinical efficacy, selenium disulfide showed better cosmetic performance, with higher patient satisfaction related to scalp comfort, soothing effect, and hair feel. These attributes are particularly relevant in chronic conditions, where long-term adherence is critical.

The data presented at EADV 2025 confirm selenium disulfide as a clinically and cosmetically differentiated option, outperforming zinc pyrithione in both symptom control and user experience.
