Pigmentary disorders affect nearly one in two people worldwide. They have a significant impact on quality of life and self-esteem, especially in patients with darker phototypes. Their pathophysiology is now known to go well beyond melanin synthesis alone, involving oxidative stress, inflammation, senescent fibroblasts and the melanocyte microenvironment. Long UVA and high-energy visible (HEV) light are also now recognized as key contributors.
At the 2026 congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), La Roche-Posay brought together four international pigmentation experts. They offer a practical roadmap for dermatologists, from photoprotection to correction of lesions, including new active ingredients and combinations with aesthetic procedures.
