INTRODUCTION

Skin is the interface between the body and the external environment and one of the main routes through which environmental factors and pathogens can penetrate the body.
The primary role of the skin is to serve as protection from potential assaults by microorganisms, toxic substances and other external physical, chemical or organic factors. An intact skin barrier facilitates maintenance of skin function, homeostasis and appearance. Skin hydration is essential to preserve elasticity and resistance properties.
M89 (Mineral 89, Vichy Laboratoires) contains 89% Vichy volcanic mineralizing water (VVMW) and 0.4% hyaluronic acid (an extracellular matrix component with viscoelastic and hygroscopic properties) to impact various cutaneous processes. VVMW is highly enriched in minerals which reinforce natural defenses of the skin, e.g. restoring skin barrier, stimulating antioxidant activity, enhancing innate immunity. Internal data confirmed that M89 protects against adhesion of pollution microparticles. The final formulation includes only 11 ingredients, is hypoallergenic and fragrance-free to enhance suitability for those with sensitive and irritated skin.
Recent interim study results from 1630 subjects with inflammatory dermatoses or having undergone dermatologic procedures have been published.
