Course Learning Objectives:



This course provides an evidence-based overview of the clinical management of common pigmentary disorders, with a focus on melasma, solar lentigo, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The program explores the biology of skin pigmentation, melanogenesis, and the role of oxidative stress and inflammation in dyschromia, particularly in patients with skin of color.


Participants will learn a standardized diagnostic approach, including the use of Wood’s lamp, dermoscopy, and targeted investigations, as well as a stepwise treatment strategy incorporating photoprotection, topical depigmenting agents, combination therapies, chemical peels, and laser-based procedures. Special attention is given to newer therapeutic agents, multimodal management, and the significant psychosocial impact of pigmentary disorders on quality of life.


This course emphasizes practical, patient-centered, and scientifically grounded strategies to optimize outcomes in pigmentary disorder management. 

Upon successful completion of thiscourse, participants will be able to:
  • Understand the origin & evolution of human skin pigmentation
  • Describe the key biological mechanisms of skin pigmentation and melanogenesis, including the impact of inflammation and oxidative stress on the development of hyperpigmentation disorders.
  • Apply a standardized clinical diagnostic approach to common pigmentary conditions such as melasma, solar lentigo, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, using appropriate assessment tools and differential diagnosis strategies.
  • Develop evidence-based, stepwise management plans incorporating photoprotection, topical and systemic therapies, procedural interventions, and patient-centered counseling to improve clinical outcomes and quality of life.
