Course Learning Objectives:

This Continuing Medical Education (CME) session, led by Dr. Shereen Rahman, focuses on a holistic and patient-centered approach to managing eczema, emphasizing empowering patients to manage their condition effectively. Detailed case studies provide insight into the practical aspects of diagnosing and managing eczema, with emphasis on clinical examination findings and crafting individualized management plans. The CME also touches on the nuances of managing eczema in skin of color, where patterns of presentation may differ, and complications like bacterial infected eczema, eczema herpeticum, and others. Dr. Rahman brings over 23 years of experience in general practice with a special interest in dermatology, making her insights particularly valuable for primary care providers.

• Increase confidence in developing management plans for various types of eczema.
• Sharpen the understanding the classical presentation of eczema on different parts of the body.
• Recognize complications and formulate comprehensive treatment plans that encompass avoidance of irritants, appropriate use of emollients, steroids, and other medications, as well as patient education for self-management.
• Understand the genetic basis, treatment plans, and the importance of patient education.
